On Saturday, April 6, 2013, GLORY 6 will take place at the Ulker Sports Arena in Istanbul, Turkey. The main event will feature the long awaited rematch between the world’s number 2 ranked heavyweight kickboxer, Daniel “The Savage Samurai” Ghita of Romania, 47-8, 36 KOs, against number 3 ranked Gokhan “The Rebel” Saki, 78-16, 55 KOs. To me Saki/Ghita is a true Ali/Frazier level clash. It just doesn’t get much better than this.
In their first fight, in the quarterfinals at a K-1 World Grand Prix on December 11, 2010, they pounded each other in the trenches for three rounds. And the result? A draw. Therefore they went to a fourth overtime round, which Saki narrowly won on points, continuing into the tournament. But over the course of their battle Ghita had broken Saki’s arm with one of his vicious roundhouse kicks, which contributed to Gokhan losing his next fight in the event in the first round.
Daniel Ghita pursued a rematch and Saki obliged, stipulating that the fight take place in…Turkey. So yes, Ghita will definitely be in hostile territory, facing Saki, who is of Turkish decent, in Istanbul. Drama? Guaranteed.
The undercard is completely stacked with compelling world-class talent and top contenders, like Murat Direkci, Andy Ristie, Nieky Holzken, Lhoucine Ouzgni and many more, all vying for title shots and the honor of being the best.
And on an emotional note, for me anyway – I will be joined by my old PRIDE Fighting Championships cohort, Bas Rutten, in the commentating booth. This will be the first show we’ve called together, in a two-man booth, in 10 years! I can’t wait!
So the sequel to this titanic rivalry is upon us. Will Saki’s ultra quick punches give him a repeat win or will Ghita’s armor piercing shins smash his way to victory. Don’t miss the international pay per view, available at: http://GloryWorldSeries.com
