#GLORY9 at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, June 22, 2013, was broadcast on CBSSN, CBS Sports Network, and was a definite high point for us at GLORY.

The evening showcased the best of kickboxing, including Tyrone Spong‘s (Suriname/Holland) dramatic, 3-victories-in-one-night (2 KO’s, 1 decision) tournament win, runner-up Danyo Ilunga (Congo/Germany), tournament standouts Steve McKinnon (Australia), Filip Verlinden (Belgium), Dustin Jacoby (USA), Mourad Bouzidi (Tunisia), Daniel Ghita‘s (Romania) 1st round KO of Mejiro Gym’s Brice Guidon (France), Rico Verhoeven‘s (Holland) rematch decision over arch-nemesis Errol Zimmerman (Suriname/Holland), Anderson Silva‘s (Brazil) shutout of Daniel Sam (UK), Joseph Valtelini‘s (Canada) low kick TKO over Road To Glory (RTG) champion Francois Ambang (Cameroon/USA), Artem Vakhitov‘s (Russia) phenomenal body shot TKO over Luis Tavares (Holland) and Wayne Barrett‘s (New York) complete domination over RTG winner Mike Lemaire (France/USA), etc.
But amongst the much deserved respect and adulation for all the athletes, there is one name that we shouldn’t forget: Michael Duut, a.k.a. “The Dream Crusher” (Holland). He almost re-wrote history by decking tournament favorite Tyrone Spong with a single right hand just seconds into their bout. Props to him for an odds defying and courageous performance, and to Tyrone Spong for overcoming the potential disaster, only to return the favor with a fight ending right of his own just seconds later! It was an epic and historic end to the quarter-finals! What a night!
